Wellness coaches work with clients on their habits.  Our habits make up our everyday lives and they either support, or hurt, our health.  Wellness coaches explore with their clients what habits are supporting their goals and which ones need to be changed.

Wellness coaches support clients in creating an action plan.  The focus of health and wellness coaching is to create action steps for clients to gradually reach their desired goals.  Rather than focusing on a specific outcome, we are focusing on the steps to get there.

Wellness coaching helps with foundational habits.  When one area of our health is out of balance, it can prevent us from making changes in other areas.  Foundational habits, like sleep, nutrition, and stress management, help to improve other aspects of health.  Getting help with one area, can indirectly help with another.

Wellness coaches understand change doesn't happen over night.  Change, is many times, a slow process that requires multiple attempts before achieving the goal.  Wellness coaches can provide the support needed to overcome lapses and help you stay on track.

Wellness coaching supports a 'one size does not fit all' approach.  There is a great deal of information available on solutions to achieving your health goals.  However, what works for some, may not work for others.  We are all unique and thereby have our own unique needs and preferences.  Wellness coaches work with your unique needs and preferences to create an action plan that will work for you.

Wellness coaching treats the mind and body as one.  Our health and well-being is impacted by both and physical and mental health.  When we are trying to make changes in one area, the other can influence our ability to accomplish those changes.  We need to understand how our mind influences our body and vice versa*.

Wellness coaching is a client-centered approach.  Wellness coaches work with clients as an ally in their journey to a healthier self.  Wellness coaches help facilitate clients in developing their action plan based on their unique needs.  Coaches support clients in identifying and activating their internal strengths and external resources for creating sustainable changes.

Financial Benefits

A healthy lifestyle benefits your finances in several ways.

First, unhealthy habits can be expensive.  Smoking or vaping can cost up to $12 dollars, or more, a day, excessive alcohol use can lead to spending $100 or more a week, and eating junk food can also be a costly habit.  These habits not only present an immediate expense you see in your bank account, they can have costs later on in life.

Second, the expenses that are incurred as a result of poor health can be overwhelming.  From the cost of medications, doctor's visits, and hospital stays, to the cost of lost productivity.  If you are self-employed, being ill can result in loss of income and even for those employed by a company or organization, you may exhaust sick/vacation time, if it is even available.  This can create a financial strain that can further exacerbate your health through the effects of stress.

Third, this relationship between our finances and health can be seen in various facets of a our life.

  • On average, a non-smoker's net worth is about 50% higher than light smokers.

  • Physical appearance has been found to impact a person's earning ability.

  • Healthy people, those within a healthy weight range and non-smoker, pay lower life insurance premiums, and in some cases, lower health insurance costs.

When we invest in our health, it has a high return.
